Cell Phone Photography Competition III
Moving Past the Camera
The Texas Photographic Society is now accepting images taken with a cell phone camera for its latest competition, "Cell Phone Photography III: Moving Past the Camera" which is open to all levels of photographers internationally. Images must be captured with a cell phone camera and can only be manipulated with a cell phone application. NO Photoshop adjustments are permitted! Please submit your entries by Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Our juror for this competition is Nate Larson, a contemporary artist working with photographic media, artist books and digital video. He holds an academic appointment at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and chaired the 2014 national conference of the Society for Photographic Education.

David JohndrowJanuary Portfolio Competition III
Meg Birnbaum and David Johndrow are January's Accepted Portfolio Photographers. Juror Chris Bennett has selected the next six portfolios to be exhibited online for January, February and March 2011. Congratulations to Meg Birnbaum [Somerville, MA], Don Norris [Hattiesburg, MS] and Suzanne Hanson [Kingston, MA] for accepted Emerging Artists and congratulations to David Johndrow [Austin, TX], Keith Prue [Boston, MA] and Willson Cummer [Fayetteville, NY] for accepted Mid-career artists. Chris Bennett also selected Stan Raucher [Seattle, WA] for an Honorable Mention.
Chris Bennett is a photographer, curator and photo educator living in Portland Oregon. His work experience includes the George Eastman House, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and Photo-eye Books & Gallery. Chris is the founder and current Executive Director of Newspace Center for Photography where he has curated over 70 exhibitions in the last eight years. He has reviewed portfolios for Photolucida, Photographic Center Northwest and Photo Alliance. Chris graduated with a BFA in Photography and minor in Art History from Indiana University in 1999.

Robert CassawayDecember Portfolio Winners
Congratulations to Robert Cassaway and Kathleen Robbins, the December Emerging and Mid-career photographers selected for the Portfolio II Competition juried by Kenda North. Kenda North is professor and head of photography at UT Arlington. She received her MFA from the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY (University of Buffalo). Previously she taught at the University of California, Riverside, Colorado Mountain College, Breckenridge and the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Her work in photography has been exhibited nationally and internationally for over thirty years and is in numerous private and public collections. Her work is represented in Dallas by Craighead-Green Gallery.

Robert CassawayBest Shot! Accepted Entries!
The Texas Photographic Society is hosted an online exhibit with Fraction Magazine. Juror and Fraction Magazine Editor and Cofounder, David Bram, selected 19 images for this online exhibition. Accepted Entries will be included in a two page spread and First, Second, Third Place and Honorable Mentions will be featured in the January 2011 issue of Fraction Magazine. The Best Shot will also be exhibited on our Members' Online Gallery for a month and archived for a year.

Cell Phone Photography Online Exhibition
Juried by Scott Bourne of Bourne Media. All Award winners will receive a complimentary printed exhibition catalogue. In addition, photographers whose works are designed as First, Second and Third place winners may choose a photographic print from a selection of the TPS Print Program, excluding the Featured Artists. A book is being published and will be available on blurb.com.

TPS was accepting images taken with any cell phone and could only be manipulated with applications that came with or could be downloaded onto a cell phone. Scott Bourne selected 32 images for the exhibit and winners will be online through 2010. Entries came from all over the United States as well as Germany.

Juried by Jean Caslin of Casling, Gregory & Associates in Houston, TX. The Texas Photographic Society has presented its quarterly Photographic Portfolio Competition. Each month, TPS will feature two portfolios, one by an emerging photographer and one by a mid-career photographer. This competition is open to TPS members only.
